my grampa bought him this truck a long time ago before my dad and my mom even got married. and my mom keeps telling him to get a new one but he wont. he is just fixing it up. does it have value or something

some times a truck or car can be more then metal for someone they had times and people in there car and trucks that might be gone but they remember the good times i had cars in the past i wish i would of kept they can never be replaced even with the same type

Oh my gosh my husband does the same thing. He has a 79 dodge van which is not worth anything. He has put it in the shop many of times. I tell him buy a new vehicle and he refuses because of the payments each month. He works hard and so do I. I think it is time for him to buy a new vehicle.

Possibly just sentimental value, especially if your grampa is no longer alive.
Either that or he may not have the cash to buy a new one.

To buy a vehocle one must have credit good enough. Since your grandpa gave him his current truck my guess is that his credit is not good enough to buy one.
