I suppose it might exist in some cultures, but if there are such cultures, I would say that they are relatively small. Ordinarily, a dowry is not part of an American wedding.

In reality, yes.
Bride's parents are supposed to pay for the wedding. Gifts are expected, ect...
Did I get a dowry when I married my wife?
No, but we got great gifts and 'a little something for the nest-egg'.

yes, among certain sects of people. i believe the Amish still offer a dowry.

Not really....unless you count the tradition that the bride's parents pay for the wedding....which can be a pretty hefty price sometimes, lol.
