There are plenty of volunteer organizations that ramp up their efforts around Christmas. Helping out with one of the soup kitchens in the area, I've heard, is a rewarding experience.
And I hope that whoever gave you a thumbs down did so by mistake. Non-religious people tend to be very charitable. You're in good company.
Good luck to you.

How about contacting the Samaritans - I believe a lot of people call them over the festive period and perhaps you could help out. Otherwise charities that help the homeless etc. Even local hospitals may take on volunteers. If you wish to donate money I've heard The Children's Society on www.childrenssociety.org.uk/giftsworthgiving is good. Good for you!

Good for you, Christmas is about giving and what better gift than your time. Is there any elderly people near where you live that will be alone and need some comfort? You could ask your local Social services department, if there is anywhere you could help.

There are loads of appeals around at Christmas including winter schemes for the elderly and the homeless. I'm sure there are lots of people that would need some help. Check your local paper for voluntary schemes or just articles about schemes your local coouncil are running and then contact them and see if you can help.

I would buy blankets from Goodwill and hand them out to homeless people in your area. Give the blankets a good wash so they are nice and soft. You may even get donations if you tell people that is what you are doing. Then you could add a cup of hot cocoa and a donut.

Some churches may have food drives, maybe you can collect canned goods for them. Salvation Army may need volunteers to help serve food to the homeless. Prayer will work too :)
Do you know any elderly neighbors? Maybe cook them a meal and bring it to them.
God bless.

Loads of ways, collect for charity, help out feeding the homeless or giving them blankets to keep warm, helping out on a suicide phoneline (Christmas can be lonely for many people and the suicide rate increases). You can organise food collections for poor families and drop it off in charity collection bins.

Collect all the used cloth and send them to poor Africans in Africa. If possible get them some amount of medicines that they can consume immediately to recover from Malaria or Cough & Cold!
