we might be getting stationed there so im trying to get an idea on places and cost of living.

Oceanside is OK, you need to check out the neighborhood, some are good some are bad.you might want to look at rent in Fallbrook or Vista. Fallbrook has a small town feel. Vista is better on the south side of the 78 freeway.

Yeah, right! Chula Vista couldn't be more far away! You will want to look in the Oceanside area, but check it out first. Some areas of Oceanside are very nice, others are like a slum. Cost of living anywhere in San Diego County is very high. I don't know where you are moving from, but expect to pay a lot for rent. Good luck!

Most people live in Oceanside, but I personally prefer to live a little further north, It costs more but it is way nicer. For example, San Clemente, or Mission Viejo. Its worth the drive as far as I am concerned.

Oceanside is probably the closer location.
Carlsbad is better for family life but may cost more.
