Malaysia is a beautiful country with some wonderful resorts.

You could try Penang. It's quite touristy and busy, lots of nightlife, restaurants, food markets etc and big sky scraper hotels. You can also visit the Snake Temple, the Butterfly Farm or take the funi up Penang Hill for the views. The night markets are pretty impressive too.

Hotelwise, look at

The Mutiara - 5* international hotel.
The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang - recently renovated, and rather nice.
Eastern and Oriental - a little piece of history, this is a wonderful, special hotel

However, I prefer Langkawi. It's a less touristy, quieter version of Penang. Fab beaches, and if you stay close to town - the Pelangi Beach, the Holiday Villas etc - there's more than enough to keep you entertained. The island is absolutely stunning and there are hundreds of deserted islands dotting the area - you can take a day trip out to one of these and just chill - it's fab. Try Bon Ton for a really good meal - there's a nice bar there too. It's also worth taking a trip up the cable car - the views are fantastic!

Hotels:
The Datai - 5*, quite pricey but very very special
The Andaman - 5*, slightly less pricey but still special
Tanjung Rhu - 5*, pricey but very very special indeed
Berjaya Beach Resort - 4*, good value for money, location closer to town and lovely
Langkawi Holiday Villas - 3 - 4*, good value, but not quite as special.

But for the ultimate honeymoon destination, Pangkor Laut is exquisite. Romantic, private, secluded and absolutely stunning.

I'd also recommend spending a couple of days in KL - the nightlife is great, as is the shopping. Try Bangsar for bars and restaurants and for the night market on Sundays, Heritage Row for cool bars and clubs. Zouk is the superclub and has international DJs pretty much all the time, although Velvet Underground on Wednesdays is 80's music (more my scene). China Town is great for shopping and knock offs, and Bukit Bintang is great for just shopping - there are loads of food markets in the area where you can try all the local delicacies.

For really special boutique hotels at a good price, the following website is great:

Have a wonderful time!

The most important thing is to check the weather for the time of year that you are going....then pick a hotel. Generally the monsoon season is on either the East or West coast at any one time- so make sure you pick the correct side (i've been to Perhentian islands in both dry and Monsoon season- it was paradise in the dry and rubbish in the Wet season- all the diving etc was cancelled, restaurants shut.) The Datai in Langkawi is meant to be amazing. The Perhentian Islands (?spelling) are beautiful but don't know the names of any of the posh resorts there. Have fun!

That depends on which state you are going to. There's many islands in Malaysia which will be suitable for romantic honeymoon.
