The biggest reason I don't choose more of my own answers is the 4 hour time requirement. It would be easier to do if you were allowed to chose when YOU wanted to. And Diny, those 3 points are GIVEN to your total, not taken away! :)

I don't really ask a lot of question myself but when I do, I try to vote for a best answer myself. The only time I let others choose is when I think all answers are equally good.
I hate it when people leave questions open for a long time and then don't bother to pick a best answer.
These questions usually remain unresolved because nobody goes back to vote on questions they answered a week or so ago.
Some people almost never choose a best answer and a lot of their questions are unresolved. I usually don't answer these people's questions anymore. Honestly, what's the point?

I usually choose the best answers myself. It has happened though that I couldn't come online for a couple of days after asking and my question got put for a vote. I try to not let that happen though.

I think the real reason is to pick a best answer cost you 3 points to let it go to vote is free so they may just give the answer they like a thumb up instead... I think!

I've just about always chosen the best answers myself; the reason I don't is because many people on here say stupid things then they get votes for it. And I don't mean "stupid" things as in answers I disagree with, I mean answers that are either perverted or mean, so I go with my own opinionated instinct.

I don't ask questions here very often, but when I do, I always try to pick my own best answer.
