Are you sure you don't mean direct address? That is when you address directly a person or thing and it must be set off from the rest of the sentence by commas.

Examples: MARY, will you please be sure you have finished all your homework!!

Will you please be sure, MARY, that you have finished all of your homework!!

Will you please be sure that you have finished all of your homework, MARY!!
