remember that line from an old movie: "The truth, you can't handle the truth."
some people can't be truthful even with themselves. of course, these people have not matured fully and you should not trust them and they don't know the concept

Often we lie when we are afraid of what the "truth" can do to us such as making us look bad to someone we have always tried to stand tall in front of. Also if we are fearful of losing something if the truth comes out. Lies can some times just be a plain and simple way of trying to protect ourselves... it may not be the right thing to do but everyone has that struggle at any given time.
