The whole club is badly managed from the top to the bottom and it seems to be the cause of their decline.

They have not won an FA Cup since 1955 or a premiership title since 1927. They are only a big club because it's the only club in Newcastle. The Magpies wants to see a fast paced attacking style of play so buy players who can do that.
The problem is they don't buy many defenders and if they had £30 million to buy and defender like nesta or terry they would proberly use it to buy another striker or attacking midfielder.
The other problem they had was there players where always in the news (bowyer, woodwate, dyer, jenas, bramble, bellamy etc)
Even freddie shepard was found with a hooker once lol
The clubs needs to move forward and work on it's weak areas but while the players drink, smoke and fight off the pitch the club will never come close to winning anything simply because the players don't have the fitness they need because of the geordie lifestyle they are living.

From top to bottom is the real problem that face NAewcastle United.
Freedy Shepheard has never being afraid to back the manager up with fantastic spending power, only bettered by Chelsea, but surely before signings are made, he should say to the manager, are you sure about this guy.
I think Glenn Roeder is a lovely bloke, he appears to know his stuff about football, but i don't think he has got the bottle and knowledge to run a massive club like Newcastle United on a day to day basis, maybe on the coaching sided he would be a valueable asset.
Also, not just Roeder, but Souness and Robson hasve all being found gulity of spending to much money on offensive players and not enough on defensive.
For god sake anyone who values Jean Alian Boumsoung at £8m, well they deserve everything they get, Souness couldn't even organise a piss up in a brewary, and he couldn't even spot a talented footballer to save his life.

i am a newcastle fan, newcastle have never had a good defence so spending millions on attacking players doesnt make much sense.
saying that i think any club who lose Owen for the entire season who was going to be shearer's replacement will struggle. we then have shola to turn to who is also out for the season. so we are left with rossi, who undoubtly a great player but only on loan till new year.
we are in very poor form but cant see us going down. as in january will buy again whereas the clubs around may not have the cash to do so,
newcastle ins jan -
Upson
Another Centre half / Left Black
Beattie
Nugent
this is who i think newcastle should TRY buy

They are worthy of a better side, it as got to be down to the manager, they must build from the back a solid defence will give a spring board for the mid field to feed the forwards and even poach themselves an occasional goal, you can have the best forward in the world but unless they get the ball up front and not continuously dropping back to help a lacklustre defence then they will be rubbish , no matter how many or how well they are supported

The simple answer to your question is that they are S$$T. Just for the moment though. They have got a team of big players (Owen and martins) who are injured and then they have got other players (luque) who couldn't give a damn for the club. The best thing to do is spend some money in the January transfer window and go after some youngsters. They also need to sell some of the players that are holding back the rest of the club back.
The best thing for Newcastle would be if they could :
a) bring Alan shearer out of retirement and get him to play till the summer. or
b) get Alan Shearer on the coaching staff for a much needed boost

For years they have been relying on Shay Given to keep them out of trouble and that's gone a bit **** lately.
For years they have had a shocking defense, but relied on outscoring the opponent - and that's gone a bit **** too.
For years they have relied on signing one or two big names to prop up a mediocre squad and that's gone a bit **** too.
The bottom line is, they had a couple of seasons punching above their weight, then the bubble burst, but eeryone expects more.
There are too many prima donna types in football, which means they don't want to come and live in or near Newcastle, so they struggle to sign quality unless they pay over the odds.
The fans' great support is a double edged sword, too. They like to hero worship, bless 'em, and so the culture of buying in a big star perpetuates.
What they need to do is get in a couple of solid defenders and bring through a few youth players. They need to accept that for a couple of seasons they won't get too much success, but can build a squad that will blossom in two or three years time.
Bolton and Wigan have managed it, so there's no reason why Newcastle can't do it either.

No team has a devine right to be successfull.ok newcastle are a big club but big clubs get relegated too.
they keep panic buying and looking for the short term answer.
Instead of buying michael owen for mega bucks they could have bought 4 or 5 young championship players for less.
maybe these players would have made it or not but 9 times out of 10 you will get your money back.
Newcastle knew shearer was going in that case why not get his replacments earlier.
i agree with the person who said that they are abadly run club,i think they need to get rid of all the dead wood and be patient for a couple of years while the team is rebuilt.

The main reason they done so well last year was because of Shay Given, but now he has been out a lot. He made some spectacular saves.
They do need defenders and they havent got any strikers fit either and Michael Owen will be back soon.
Leave the Magpies to it and they will sort it out soon, they know what they need.

they were a champions league side under robson then he started to lose control bellamy dyer bramble etc .shepard saw this and appointed souness to reinstall discipline that was ok but his tactics didnt work so he was replaced with roeder.this saw a rapid improvement and roeder was given the job full time . roeder was a popular choice but with hindsight is going to be the worst thing they could have done.roeder will be sacked soon and several unemployed managers know this and are biding there time .you can bet your life shepard is working on it now .relegation is unthinkable but it is a speciality of roeders and they wont let him do it
