You can wear white, it just has to be winter white. Kind of an off white. Silly rule. As long as you wear a Viking hat on Lief Erickson day.

This fashion "rule" came about when heat was provided by burning coal and other ash producing items. Lots of soot and ash does not wear well with white.

Since it is antiquated, it might well be abandoned, I would not object.
