I go along with the Buddhists and mystics - not to mention a large number of contemporary philosophers and theorists - who say that the self is an illusion. We may construct a personal identity, but it's exactly that - a construction.
There's a classic book in sociology called "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" by Erving Goffman. It's basically about how selfhood is a show that we put on.
Check out MySpace, or any other social networking site, and you see this kind of identity-making in action. Not only is this an interesting question, I think it might be the single most important question. Thumbs up to the asker.

I feel I am unique in my own way. I really enjoy the small things in life. I can walk, talk, see, smell, and understand enough to make me happy. Too many people take advantage of life and I appreciate what I have the best I can and treat the ones I love with respect, and get it back in return. I try not to knock others down and I try to keep the peace. I'm not perfect and I will admit to my mistakes, but I will also voice an honest opinion when needed. Life's too short and I know all my dreams will never come true, but alot have so learn to live, and live to learn!

I am a living creation of God almighty. I see myself in different rolls and moments of time. The real me changes , evolves, re-invents and loves every moment of it.
