American football wasn't developed in the UK, Rugby was developed in the UK. Rugby was introduced to the US, then the rules changed to differentiate American football from Rugby. All the changes, rules, and regulations were made in the US so that American football is a completely different sport than rugby. Therefore, American Football was loosely based on Rugby, but developed into it's own sport.

And Einstein was German, not American.

I'm sorry
I have answered this question so many times...

when you typed it in...didn't you read all the other exact same questions before yours??????

why didn't you just read those answers....
or look it up on my questions answered section.

Heres the easiest answer I can give YOU...
If you don't have feet - you can't play the game.

The best answer in this entire stupid question period alluded to the fact that we would be calling all of Europe Germany if it wasn't for Americans....
it's an American sport...not british - thank you very much for that ignorant thought.

It's taught and played all over western Europe...
I currently coach in Germany by the way...at one of five levels...semi-pro. This means within one of the 13 or so states...there 25 teams...
England plays football (American) as well

I guess it hasn't been popluar with you because you can't get drunk and beat each other up....
or sip tea and say "Jolly good show" every 90 minutes.

American football was established before association football. In those days, there was a greater emphasis on kicking the ball in order to advance it toward the end zones. It has evolved into a pass first, run second, kick third strategy. An Englishman by the last name of Brown decided that association football needed to be different and coined the term "soccer" that continues to be marketed under that name by the powers that be in Europe. Basically, we didn’t need to name it soccer because we already had football.

baseball has nothing to do with bashing people about with the bases... a basketball is thrown through a hoop and net.... dont get me started on the origination of the name of the sport called golf.

rightly named or not, the only time the ball is in bounds is while the carrier's feet are within the paintlines. depending how well or poorly the team drives down the field you either punt, kick for field goal, or PAT. imo, i'd say the name is apt.

I have no idea, 99.9% of the time the ball is in hand, there's no real reson why it should be called football. It's like calling real football 'Headball' or something.

It should be called 'American Rugby' instead.

It's because we don't care what foreigners think.

Football wasn't stolen from the British, it was taken...like our independence.
