Or rather, it's dark brown on the top only, as my side hairs are darker. I do not use harsh chemicals and have an indoor job. I'm 22. My hair used to be very black before, but now it's a wierd combination of brown and black. It is also coarse and curly, but that's the natural texture. What do you think went wrong?

One thing could be you coloured your hair black which is still on at the length and the original color is showing at the roots. The second reasons which is more likely could be your hair is starting to lighten which will eventually lead to white hairs.
