I have so many favorite Christmas songs that I cannot come up with any ONE favorite at the moment (although "O Holy Night" ranks up there).
Okay, I kind of like "OY! To the World" by Saving Ferris.
However, I just wanted to write a response because your story is so beautiful and bittersweet! What a lovely memory you have of your grandfather, and that beautiful a capella version of the song "O Holy Night." Thank you so much for sharing this lovely memory! I hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed Merry Christmas!

Hard to pick a favourite but two of my fave christmas carols is Silent Night and Little donkey (so soothing, like lullabys) I also like We wish you a merry Christmas, simple but catchy. As for christmas songs in the charts(don't think these type of tunes where what you are talking about but I will add them anyway) Santa Baby, George Michaels "last Christmas" and Shakin Steven's "Merry Christmas " are some of my favourites although its hard to choose, such a shame we don't seem to get any original new Christmas tunes released anymore. Seems like all the catchy novelty Christmas tunes/songs have stopped many of the classics now being from the 60's, 70's and 80's/ early nineties. I always find playing a CD of the traditional carol songs really makes the atmosphere feel alot more Christmassey and they remind me of when I was a young child at school performing in the choir and in the annual Nativity play.

Oh Holy Night is one of my favourite christmas songs - the music is just wonderful,
but,
Little Drummer Boy by Bing and David Bowie is also one of my favourites.
and,
Fairy Tale of New York is a must at christmas.
then,
White Christmas is also a biggy,
also,
Solstice Bells by Jethro Tull.
Not forgetting
In Dulci Jubilato by Mike Oldfield
and Finally
Stop the Calvery by Jona Lewie and I Beleive in Father Christmas by Greg Lake
As you can tell - i love christmas songs!!

Silent Night.... sends shivers down me timbers... it's very mellow... of course I prefer it when a choir sings in tune rather than the kids at the local primary school who cannot hold a note.
