My son is at uni but he worked very hard to get his grades but my 2 daughters find studying a lot easier it is all down to attitude and confidence if you want something bad enough you should be able to get it but with sheer hard work nothing is given easily in todays world.

As previously stated, each and every person is born with an IQ range that is mostly inherited. However, the environment determines where you'll fall on that IQ range; for example, someone born with a range of 100-115 can achieve an IQ of 115 if their environment is rich. Study habits and the like are possibly a result of modeling (observing other people's behavior and imitating it), not necessarily inherited. A person who is born retarded may have and IQ range of 55-70, meaning that they can never get above an IQ of 70, but if their environment is conducive to learning and growth, they will most likely develop an IQ close to 70. In short, you inherit your IQ range, but your environment is what will determine where you fall on that range.

If you mean the intelligence, it certainly inherited. But the way you applied your intelligence that matters in life.
A lot of people with high IQ score could not adapted to life. consider Ted Kaczynski the Unabomber. He has a very high IQ, he graduated high school without passing junior. Went to Harvard at age of 16, graduated at 20. Got master and doctoral degree from Univ of Michigan and worked at UC Berkeley. But ended up as the Unabomber.
He did not have Emotional Intelligence to be adaptive to society or contribute to society.
IQ is permanent but you can enhance your Emotional Quotient. So work your EQ instead of IQ.

It is thought that IQ is a bit of both.
You are born with an IQ range, but what your IQ will be will depend on your environment (access to good schools or tutors for example) and what a person does (studying).

Inheritance is also one of the point, the next is give opportunity to learn new things which require intelligence.
Last is they have to play with what they have learned to implement in life, only then can they go forward.
