I work until 1am, 5 days a week and I don't fall asleep until 4:30-5am even though I relax myself and lay in bed. I talked to my doctor and he just said, I need natural sleep and wouldn't prescribe me anthing. But my entire day is wasted while sleeping. Is there any tips or even over the counter meds I can take so I can sleep as soon as I get home and be up at 10am, the latest? I prefer to not take meds so hopefully you can offer some advice not requiring them but I am willing to try anything. I find that I have a lot of energy in the evening and at night, probably because I work such stupid hours. Hopefully you can suggest something that will have me crashing towards the end of my shift.

Try listening to relaxing music.
Jazz, Samba anything that is relaxing to you. avoid the loud ones.

Or apply Night Lotions that have bedtime scents.

Good luck. :D

Don't drink any caffeine 4 hours or so before you want to go to sleep for starters. Then when you get home from work take a hot bath with Johnson's Bedtime Bath for babies. (yes it can be used for big kids too :-) ) The lavender scent will help to relax your body and you would be amazed at how relaxed and ready to sleep you will be after that. They have a lotion that you can use too. Somebody else mentioned drinking a glass of milk....that really helps too. I am an MP in the Army so I have to do the Graveyard shift as well and this works for me. Good luck!

A good trick for natural sleep is drink a glass of milk and take a couple of aspirin. The aspirin wipes away any minor little aches that might keep you awake and the calcium in the milk will put you right out. Look what it does for babies. Or you can substitute some calcium tablets. And take the phone off the hook.

Try getting one of those alarm clocks that plays music or has soothing sounds like the ocean. Or just lay in bed with your eyes closed. You will eventually fall asleep.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
