Alfred Kinsey defined a scale of 0-7 where 0=physically incapable of responding to the same sex under circumstances, and 7=the gay equivalent. 1-6 were degrees of bisexuality based on preference one way or the other. Straights were generally 1-2, bis were 3-4, gays were 5-6. 0s and 7s made up less than 1% of the population. You would have us believe that 0 and 7 are the only options, which is not supported by reality. The fact of the matter is that there are bisexual people, I'm one of them, denying that is as irrational as denying the existence of Moscow because you've never been there. You are as bad as the gay bashers, how can you expect anyone to respect your lifestyle when you refuse to respect that of others?

I forget where I heard it, but I remember reading that sexual orientation is not simply straight or gay. It's like scale, 1 being 100% straight, up to 5, which is bi, and on up to 10, which is 100% gay. A good number people don't fall into the extreme sides of the scale on either side. Most are somewhere in the middle (see bell curve).

Sexual Orientation is not something a bisexual can choose (to address the 'make up their minds' statement). It's no more a choice than being gay.

And as for best of both worlds, well, there are wonderful aspects of sex with men, and there are wonderful aspects of sex with women. Isn't that better than not finding anything wonderful about sex with either?

This is biphobia at its worst.

Bisexual individuals aren't 'straight people that just want to fit in the gay crowd'. You might argue that metrosexuals fit that description, but not bisexuals- they don't want to fit in anywhere- they simply want to have sex with both sexes. That's it.

Bisexuals HAVE decided and made up their minds- both. Do YOU honestly have one favorite thing out of every category there is in the world? If someone says "Chocolate chip cookie or Oreo-choose!" and you like both, will you completely forget one of them? Or will you say, "Well, I like both, but I prefer chocolate chip cookies."? That's how it works with most bisexuals, and all you're asking is that they deny one half of their desires.

Please educate yourself on bisexuality. It is one of the sexual orientations that people have, therefore it belongs with GLBS (yes, I included 'S' for straight, because 'straight' is a sexual orientation as well). It belongs in GLBT because they contain the mutual element of homosexual relations, as well as being a non-mainstream sexuality that GLBT often scoops up under its all-encompassing umbrella.

You are perpetuating the oppression and discrimination that exists within the queer hierarchy...

Homosexuals at the top of the pecking order
Bisexuals
Androgenous
Binary Trans
Nonbinary Trans
..
..
..etc.

Sadly, even oppressed people can oppress other people... I have posted papers that i've written about the queer hierarchy and queers oppressing queers.

Yes, bisexual is a sexual orientation. It is a valid sexual orientation. However, western culture is so dicotomized, we are taught to see things in black and white, in extremes. You're either heterosexual, or you are homosexual, and if you are something different you won't be acknowledged because it threatens the validity of the other two groups who seem to be warring against one another, a third (or even 4th or 5th etc) group just isn't very appreciated by some... =(

Below is a link to the papers I have written about this.

It is very important that we learn to recognize everyone's right to define their own identities, not just certain groups' rights to define their own identities. I am so very sorry that you are still perpetuating discrimination because of fear, frustration, and ignorance, and that you are currently projecting these feelings onto other oppressed minorities.

No. Bisexual is a very valid sexual orientation.

Bisexuals are treated badly by straight AND gay folks. Straights often believe bisexuals are gay folks in hiding... gay folks often believe biseuxals are gay folks who can't commit.

While we proudly tout GLBT, the **B** is one of the more questioned letters in the group. Yes, many have questions about *T*'s but with T's, we usually have a physical something to look at.

With bisexuals, we just wonder who they're going to sleep with next... guys? gals? both? Most of us just want a person to pick a gender -- any gender -- and stick with it. Bisexuals push back on our wants and makes us wonder why they can't.

I was one who didn't believe that there were true bisexuals. But a bisexual female co-worker of mine helped me see the light. After many long and thoughtful conversations, I became a believer.

Stay true to yourself, always.

The best of luck!

who is the world is totally "gay" or totally "straight"... if any there aren't a lot. i identify myself as gay and i can't say that i have ever been attracted enough to a girl to truly desire sex with her, but if it happened it wouldnt freak me out at all. there are some girls that i even find really hot and have a slight sexual attraction to but i just know i'm happier with guys. every person is some degree or another of this same type of thing. you should stop living in such a boxed in world, people are much more complicated than "this" or "that"

You really think I as a bisexual 'choose to be' bisexual to belong to the gaycrowd? Or that I am actually straight or gay?

Well I am NOT straight and didn't choose my sexuality. I have no interests in fitting in anywhere.

You are being stupid and arrogant. And obviously you don't have a clue what you are talking about. Why, in your opinion, is it impossible to be attracted to both sexes? What makes you think that?

No I don't. Don't confuse women that make out with other women in order to impress men with bisexuals. I could have a relationship with a man as easily as a woman and if I don't fit here, then where do I fit?

That's lame.
Just cause you limit your choices doesn't mean that I have to.
I had serious long term relationships with a man and a women.
I think the B belongs just as much as the G .

If you want society to accept you as a homosexual, then you have to accept bisexuals for what they are too. It astounds me how certain homosexuals continue to want people to accept their sexual orientation and know that straight people exist, but refuse to accept the fact that bisexuality also exists in humans, and it has always existed.

This lack of knowledge of sexual orientation in general shocks me. Buddy, if you get a chance to take a class on sexual orientation, take it.
