Within the next 7-20 years several scientists are predicting that they will be able to produce an "artificial womb" that will be capable of fully incubating a human zygote to maturity. Clearly this would allow women who wish to have children, but do not want to put their bodies through the now typical rigours of childbirth to do so. This would also allow women to more fully invest themselves into their career as a result.

It would also most likely result in much healthier babies, with them no longer dependent on the mother eating properly among other things. Problems would be detectable early, and subsequently dealt with providing a maximum chance of the youngster starting off with nigh perfect health.

I am sorry, but that logic (of banning sex) does not work.

Since women so often compare pregnancy to being worse than a guy being kicked in the balls, the comparable ban would be on kicking balls.

If so many women feel this way, why is the solution percieved so negatively?

its percieved negativly because though women may feel that pregnancy is hard it is also very rewarding. its unlike any other experiance. many women would do it over again in a heart beat. i know i would. when your pregnant you are kindof bonding with your future child, if you did that where would the bond between mother and child be? not to mention your hole thing on the artificial womb. it may produce healthy babies but if the mothers wanted their child to be breastfed then this would exclude that option for them. but it would be a neat idea for women who could not phisically carry their children because of some medical problem or those who were infertal.

Childbirth might be painful, but its worth every second once you get to hold your newborn baby in your arms. And yeah, okay, I might have stretch marks from them, oh well who cares, I'm not trying to impress anyone. I love being pregnant, theres not alot that compares to feeling your baby moving around inside of your belly, or seeing the ultrasound picture for the first time, and although painful, giving birth is an amazing thing! I'm just sorry that men can't feel the same way.

Only if you ban men from having sex with us. Also have you not noticed that when scientists predict something in 20 years it usually takes 50? Didn't they tell people in the 60's that we'd all be living on the moon by now?And in the 80's we were told that AIDS would be curable by now. So I wouldn't hold my breath for any artificial wombs.

I'm pregnant with my third child and I LOVE being pregnant. There is no way to explain how amazing it is. I feel a bond with this child already (as I did with my other two). There is just nothing that compares to feeling him kick and move about. I cannot imagine leaving it up to a machine. I think the 9 months is not only for the child to develop but for the mother and child to bond. I just think you lose an element of that when you leave it to a machine.

No, they should never ban a woman from getting pregnant because there is no greater joy than a woman carrying a baby for 9 months and then giving birth to that baby.

Can I just say that it's not actually women who get women pregnant ("should we ban women from getting pregnant")...maybe you should re-word your initial question and involve the male of the species??? Also, women being pregnant is a natural thing, in other words it's NATURE so maybe starting to fiddle around with these things would cause major problems with the human race....in my humble opinion???

that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of....no thank you! I enjoyed being pregnant and can't wait to be again! Machines aren't meant to do the job of a woman's body.

what is the world coming to anyways?? :/
