I have been surrounded by arranged marriages my whole life and have never witnessed a divorce. I think it's because when you go on the basis of love, you do your best to get to know that person beforehand and after the marriage, there's nothing really new there and alot of people want excitement. (And then there are those lucky couples who are completely content with their spouse) However, with arranged marriages, you spend a few years getting to know the person and by then you will have kids, so you always have something changing.

A sucessful marriage depends on love, commitment, trust, faithfulness and communication. You can have this with a love or an arranged marriage but arranged marriages are more socially acceptable in Asian societies, the boys' parents are not as harsh on a girl of their choice rather than their son's choice, the children that result from arranged marriages are less likely to go out hunting for boy/girlfriends and premarital sex. So arranged marriages are by far the best. Look at USA, they have so many love marriages and also extremely high divorce rates!

Well, I'm a hopeless romantic so I want to say go for love. However, I have to say that there is some validity to a well planned arranged marriage. For example, your parents have more experience with relationships and may actually pick someone with whom you'll have more similarities. However, if you are already in love with someone else, don't fool yourself into thinking you'll be able to forget her. The only way you should consider an arranged marriage now is if you get over being in love with someone else first. Trust me you'll never forget that loved one. In the end, if you marry someone else out of obligation you'll just end up making yourself and bride miserable. A form of love will grow out of respect but chances are it'll never be that "fireworks-going-off" type of love.
I've been thinking about your question...I'll tell you what...with an arranged marriage you'll probably avoid A LOT of HEARTACHES!

Statistically, arranged marriages have a lower rate of divorce.
Marriages do not last because people love each other. They last because two people share the same values, beliefs and are compatible - and they understand that love alone cannot keep 2 people together. Marriage is work. Too many people don't believe that and that is why the divorce rate is so high.

Both can be successful, but arranged are more successful than love marriages.

But for a free suggestion "A love marriage is always preferable for a girl and arranged for a man"

all marriages are about adjustments, sacrifices, lots of love and understanding. And maariage is the biggest gamble. u just have to work on it. Arraged or love, both ultimatly needs lots of patience and understanding....Statistically though, love marriages r more likely to fail then arranged ones. my guess is in love marriages couples have more expectations.....for westerners, even d concept of arranged marriage is shocking,, but in our part of d world its common practice..u r rite its not a small isuue....good luck

let's get two things clear:
1. all marriages are arranged (there is no such thing as accidental marriage) - depends on who arranges it
2. all marriages are meant for love (there is no such thing called hate marriage) - of course there are difficult times in every marriage

successful marriage depends mainly on the two partners - how they work towards making the marriage more of a success (and less of a failure) ...
