excuse the S/N it was made a very long time ago

Any way back to the matter at hand, I can just be walking down the street minding my own business and have like 5 different people ask me what’s wrong or are you OK.

I don't understand why I cant just have a straight face like everyone else. If I’m not a jolly ***** with a great big smile on my face then I’m just some hostile crazy no class black girl. I see people of other races walk around with straight faces, but the minute I come tired as hell, carrying 3 text books in hand, with a straight face watching people walking in the street to avoid me (LOL trust me I bathe on the regular and I’m not some ugly little girl)

I now just walk every where with a little smile to avoid the judgments its not right damn it!

I don't believe I'm being over sensitive or conceited. I just want to be treated equally as everyone else.

I guess in this day and age it's to much to ask.

I honestly haven`t noticed, people don`t usually walk around with a smile on their faces whether black or while. Whats the big deal, smile when there is something to smile about, otherwise, a normal straight face is not considered unusual, unless u pass an acquaintance on the street and don`t speak or smile.

Next time just tell them what you just wrote on here. There is nothing wrong with expressing "Freedom of Speech" right?? Well not in those exact words but maybe rephrase it a bit. I always have a straight face and I get the same thing, I get so tired of it that when people do ask me, I tell them " I'll tell you when it becomes your concern". and Shazzzzaaaaam!!! people let me be.

I understand what you mean. I'm not a mean person, but when I'm at work or school, walking around without smiling, people assume I'm an angry black chick with a chip on her shoulder all of the time. It really used to bother me because I know I'm not like that at all, and so do people who know me.

I don't worry about it anymore because people who judge me without even knowing me, are nothing to me. You shouldn't worry about what others think either. Anyone who does not know you, cannot define what type of person you are, based off of your facial expressions. If you don't feel like smiling, you don't have to.

Don't play to other peoples stereotypes. I hate people that are constantly smiling too, nobodies happy all the time it just shows how unhappy they are once that smile cracks. Look at Denise Richards that girl always be smiling and she doesn't look all that great when she's not but that's what makes a person real. Be yourself and smile when your happy damn it!

I never get stopped and asked what's wrong. I rarely smile. I think sometimes I wish somebody would pay attention to me but for the most part I try not to let what others think of me bother me. I know they can judge just like I can. Its human nature. Let them talk and be yourself.

Personally for me it don't matter whether you smile or not. My guess is that you have a beautiful smile. :) To answer your question, I think it's because deep down some people are afraid of black people and the smile is reassuring to them.

Just smile for the pride of your pure heart, not for fear of any criticism. I admire very much the attractive smiles of my black friends.
Remember this wise advice:
This is an old saying, O Atula, this is not as if of to-day: "They blame him who sits silent, they blame him who speaks much, they also blame him who says little; there is no one on earth who is not blamed."

you have a right to smile or not, depending on YOUR moods. Not everyone else's. So just be yourself. And don't let IGNORANT people dictate how you should show your expressions of how you feel. Good luck to you ! Be true to yourself !
