My brother will get up and talk and yell to whatever he is dreaming about i guess and will sometimes even pick things up and act as if he is awake. for example the other night he got up yelling that he had never seen one and he wanted to see it and he bent over the couch and picked up one of my nephews cars and held it about an inch in front of his eyes (his eyes were still shut) and then put it back and laid back down on the couch. He also will get up and go into my older brothers room and talk about his play station two needing to be turned off (his game is in the guest room) and then will try to crawl in bed with my brother. He is also very very hard to wake up when he is sleeping and the only way I can get him up is by putting a freezing cold towel on him or taking his covers. He is fifteen years old now. Anyone know why he does this?

It sounds like he is sleep walking. A relative of mine used to go out at night to walk!! He doesn;t do it anymore though. You are not suppose to wake them up as I understand but just gently guide them back to their bed, not try to wake them up or shout or even make them feel embarrassed about it- this is very important. Some children grow out of it as they get older.

Sleepwalking can affect anyone at any age and typically occur during deep sleep.

There is a great family doctor website where you can read more about it , it gives some really helpful info too.

It most likely that your brother has a sleeping disorder. Sleeping disorders most commonly known are sleep walking, and unwanted behaviour that presents itself during sleep. most sleeping disorders are characterized by a number of symptoms:
Loud or irregular breathing
Breath holding: stop breathing episodes, or apneas during sleep
Gasping awakenings
Unrefreshing sleep
Falling asleep at inappropriate times: drowsy driving, fighting sleepiness at work
Trouble concentrating
Personality change
Memory difficulties
Uncomfortable leg sensations when trying to sleep
Leg kicking during sleep
Yelling or screaming during sleep
Violent activity during sleep

It is probably in your parents best interest to take him to a doctor and let them know about the way he behaves after he falls asleep. It is possible that he can injury himself or someone else for that matter. good luck.
