she obviously has a low self esteem, but you think she can really sing ,you said she really has a great voice, first you must give her or take her to a salon where they are going to give her a complete makeover, if they can change her outfit into something more commanding and powerful then that would be a boost, second tell her, that you think her voice is really really beautiful and that it should not go to waste, record it when she is singing and let others hear it , first a few close friends then find out their comment about it, enroll her in a fine arts academy, convince her to enroll in a schoo where they can let her potentials out, only she can make the choice whether she wants to come out of her shell, the best thing you can do is to continously remind her how great she is

Hi Lulu,
I am a singer and had the same experiences that your friend had as I was growing up.I have experienced certain levels of acceptance and recognition(success) for my singing as an adult.
The olny thing I have to say is that the strife you go through now, will only make you want to be a great singer that much more.It will also make you even better.Continue to grow.As long as she knows she's good at that-it is the #1 thing, and her music will get her through many a sad or gray day.She must learn how to share it with others. That's a blessing. So many places need music-nursing homes, orphanages, etc. If she's shy, this may be a great place for her to start, because she will be given the love she needs to continue to get out in front of people.Music changes peoples lives and is extremely powerful and worthwhile.Encourage your friend never to give up.
I believe talent is a gift from God and should be pursued.
Good luck and best wishes!

you want to be like the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana? promote out to Disney. (in any case, neither of them have skills.) Judging out of your image, you adult males look a touch too previous to be that accepted; 17 appears the reduce-off age. And if all those who had a "reliable" voice and no money replaced into waiting to develop right into a singer, we would have a lot extra pop songs flooding the radio. i'm not attempting to be propose, yet don't be so naïve.

She just needs to get recognition...book any gigs for her, karaoke contests, American Idol audition. My friend got a lot of recognition doing Karaoke at a bar. Now he sings at a lounge and makes good cash.
