I have to drive 30 miles to work and I consider that close compared to alot of other places I go.

I'm not riding no bicycle 60 miles to and from work.

I could not get to my job without a car. I worked all my life to buy my Mustang GT, and no money could buy it from me. I think I deserve it after suporting two kids, and all the sacrifices I made, and working all my life. I had to ride buses and ride rattle traps. I didn't even buy this new. After working all my life, I'm entitiled. Plus we all had jobs, until our government took them all oversees. This car if kept in great shape could be worth a lot of money one day, I've already put a fortune in it. When you work as hard as I have, and raised a family on my own, this is all I ever wanted, what's the harm? I'm not hurting anyone, and it took me from 16 to 40 something to get it. I hope I never have to part with it. If I could afford it, I'd buy a new Mustang Cobra GT. I'm a Ford Girl. Every time I turned the key, the car started on my four banger, so I finally got the race car I dreamed of. Now I aspire to be a writer. We chase our dreams, if we don't hurt anyone, what's the harm. The problem is the rich take all our jobs oversees. That hurts the people in the U.S. all in the name of profit. You can't get your kids off to school, and catch the bus and get to work on time, and work late, in the city, or you may be killed, and they are always cutting the bus services, and they don't always run to where you work. I bought a house by a bus stop for this reason, but that doesn't keep me safe in the dark dangerous city.

really....have you been to new york? most people don't drive cars. And we typically assume that because the majority of americans do drive cars and we get used to the fact that most people around us own at least 1 car.

It's because we do, like my mom and dad work thirty minutes away from where they live, and both of them have to go on highways and northway's, buses don't go on them, we dont have subway's or a lot of train's around here, and you certainly can't walk on a highway so we have to drive cars. I would love to be able to ride my bike or walk to school but live 20 minutes away from my school and I would have to get up 30 minutes earlier then I do and I already wake up early.

I would love to ride my bike or walk everywhere, but it would be hard to get to and from work 30 miles away every day. Unless you are in New York, you really need a car, unfortunately.

The USA is really big and the mass transit in the USA is not big; therefore we all need cars. It is not a very good system and ecologically unsound but people in the USA love their cars.
