Manga v Comics. The issue first starts with the society and culture to which they both exist. Here in the states, everything is being censored to cover the eyes of the younger generation. Like someone mentioned earlier, they WERE trying to make an ideal life or world in which everyone can seem to coexist within. Where as the Japanese culture is rich with philosophy and depth to which they have no restrictions upon them. Manga and Anime is a national past time there, where as comics are still labeled for "geeks" or "nerds". More times than not, people are looked down upon as reading comics, which makes it more difficult for them to be read, which means less competition overall. If someone is constantly exposed to something, let us say manga, than the individual begins to develop a imagination that which could be used for everyday life or to make a manga as well, which pushes this activity even further, but with no competition, comics can get away with lackluster attempts at drama. It's level of popularity is no where near Manga which spans the globe...literally. The high level of competition for comics pales in comparision with only two factions, marvel and DC, which ultimately revolves around a few writers and artists seeing as how they intermix within the two companies frequently. In the United States our first intent is for action, where as in Japan they look upon Manga as a way to illustrate and spread philosophy. There are not many Manga or anime out there that isn't trying to produce a lesson or make an individual think, where as most comics here is driven by sheer action and lack the depth and personality to rival manga. Also, they are two separate modes of thinking. Comics revolve around more conspiracy, betrayal, and the evil, where as manga revolves around the development of the individual. Our society is driven by the sole individual progressing through life to become rich and famous, where as Japanese culture is driven to develop relationships, friendships and families. Though they have a dark side, more times than not, they are driven by some sort of love. Here in lies the flaw of comics who are hellbent of revenge or something of a malice nature. Manga seems to have more emotional content where as most comics here are driven by anger which may come back to how our two different societies work. Most Manga are non-stop action, drama, and depth where as comics are driven by sheer action that lacks at times causing fillers and lackluster performance. Comics are not always good all the time, it's as if the artist gets a spark of imagination and hits their stride somewhere only to lose it, where as Manga is enthralling, constantly making the reader ask questions, think about emotions and their own thoughts. Not saying Comics are mindless, but they most definitely lack the depth of Manga who has thousands upon thousands of years of rich heritage where as we are slightly less in age, though more rich, lack depth and quality. For the most parts, two different cultures based on two separate things produce two separate forms of media. It depends upon the characteristics of the individual to determine which one is the best. Regardless of evidence or clues, it depends upon the person and their own personality to which seems to mold more easily to comics or manga which by the way are great forms of creativity...lol

The main problem with American comics is that there are lines that they writers and artists will NOT cross, for fear of reprisal from some group or another. The Japanese companies are NOT imparied by that problem and are therefore free to do more "creative" thigns with the stories and characters. American companies STILL feel like they have to project a more ideal, establishment oriented world. The Japanese companies have no problem presenting the world in a more realistic sense, complete with all the darkness that is inherant in human nature, that is inherant in EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON EARTH. American companies want to ignore that fact and present a world where the good guys win simply becasue they ARE the good guys, even when they could no possibly defeat their opponent, and it if frowned upon for the "good" guys to use the same tactics as their opponents. In the Japanese comics, things are a bit less cut and dried and not only is it accepted for a "hero" to use the same tactics to win, it is expected.
That is, of course just MY take on the matter...

I am already aware that this was once a question from two years ago , however I wish to share my opinion about this. To start with good query , i am not an american myself , (from someplace you don't assume ) , 1)i really like anime and manga for his or her animation sort and fine and normally for the story ( If the story is excellent I watch the anime or read the manga ,If the story does not appeal to me I drop the anime at episode three or four typically) 2)As when did this begin , as I mentioned no longer an american , but in the place I reside I simplest know very few anime fanatics . ( i would not name them otaku ,because every person has their atmosphere and socialize with different folks ,and that i best be aware of personally 2 of them . And PS: i'm hoping to consult with japan in the future for its cultural heritage first ,then for anime and manga cons ( in no way went to one ) ( & you are not able to deny a nation's history for some animation which comes from it.) Plus ,BTW i am engaged on 2 mangas ,I had a narrative and deliberate the script for years now , and i determined that this is the way which "appears like me essentially the most" to precise myself ( not a fan of novels that are lengthy simplest to fill pages ,and i am an art fan as a rule and a manga fan in exact ) i hope I shall be equipped to post them and make individuals enjoy studying my mangas ( each art and storyline )

i don't know that i would agree with that. i like manga, but i also like american comics like lenore, monster high school, grrrl scouts, squee, gloom cookie... hmm, i'd have to go through my collection for more names (haven't had time to read in a long time). i think the biggest problem is that the american comics that get the attention are DC and Marvel which are kind of played out. they had their heyday and i believe most audiences want more. and yet other american comics get pushed to the side because everyone associates american comics with characters like batman and wolverine.
i actually own far more american comics than manga - though video wise i own far more japanese animation than anything else. that could also be why people are more willing to read manga - you see it animated more than you do american comics - again, mostly just DC and Marvel. the good ones sure to get neglected.

i'm already conscious that this became right into a question from 2 years in the past , yet i prefer to share my opinion approximately this. on the initiating stable question , i'm no longer an american myself , (from someplace you do no longer anticipate ) , a million)i admire anime and manga for his or her animation sort and high quality and greater often than not for the tale ( If the tale is stable I watch the anime or examine the manga ,If the tale does not charm to me I drop the anime at episode 3 or 4 oftentimes) 2)As while did this initiate , as I suggested no longer an american , yet in the place I stay I basically recognize very few anime followers . ( i does not call them otaku ,with the aid of fact all of us has their environment and socialize with individuals ,and that i basically recognize individually 2 of them . And playstation : i'm hoping to pass to japan sometime for its cultural historical past first ,then for anime and manga cons ( in no way went to a minimum of one ) ( & you may no longer deny a rustic's history for some animation which comes from it.) Plus ,BTW i'm engaged on 2 mangas ,I had a narrative and deliberate the script for years now , and that i stumbled on that it is the way which "feels like me the main" to precise myself ( no longer prepared on novels that are long basically to fill pages ,and that i'm an artwork fan in maximum circumstances and a manga fan in specific ) i'm hoping i visit be waiting to submit them and make human beings savour examining my mangas ( the two artwork and storyline )

...because the Japanese can transform ordinary situations into extraordinary ones and (I think) they treat the manga as an important part of their culture, as what my friend always say: "Manga/Anime is far by the most famous influence that the Japanese has to offer to the world"... and also the way they draw, from the characters' outfits, facial expression, etc. so you see, manga rocks a million times over than the american comics

Thats easy, its because the American audience is generally younger than the Japanese audience when it comes to comics. That is why japanese comics deal with more adult issues while american comics stick to the same "save the world" cliche... Also, American comics are more censored, so you wont get nearly as much fighting, conflict, sex , blood and gore!!!

I wonder that myself. But my guess is that American's overall don't take Anime and Manga terribly seriously. It's usually considered a children's genre.
