its an american holiday celebrating the pilgrims and indians gathering to share a meal after a bountiful summer, the indians, or native americans, taught the settlers how to hunt game in this country and how to grow corn, squash and beans and how to preserve them to last through the winter so they wouldnt starve, the pilgrims landed in the north east and it gets quite cold and snowy there in winter, they gave thanks to the Indians for their help and thanked their god that they had the help of the native peoples to help them survive.

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks (traditionally to God) at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In Canada, it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival, held in churches across the country on a relevant Sunday to mark the end of the local harvest, though it is not thought of as a major event (compared to Christmas or Easter) as it is in other parts of the world. This tradition was taken to North America by early settlers, and has become a much more important time of year there.
