There is a clicking noise in my wall. On there other side of the wall are just cupboards, so it's not from any appliances. It really sounds like a cat clawing on carpet loudly. It's doens't sound like the scurrying of a rodent or insect---and it's pretty irregular, happening once a minute or so. It sounds like the house is settling, but is there anything I can do to pinpoint the noise or make it stop!?

<>If you have access to a stethoscope, use it to try and pin down the location and quality of the noise. The most likely suspect is still animal or insect, but another possibility is an electrical short in a wire, junction box, outlet, or switch. If the sound is in a wall not adjacent to an obvious electrical connection, try and ascertain if the wall feels warmer there than elesewhere; this might indicate a problem.

This may not be related but: we were awakened every morning at about the same time by a loud rapping on a back wall. I got up early one morning to go fishing, I wandered to the back of the house quietly after this was going on morning after morning. I had a small piece of plywood over a hole that was a prelude to putting up siding in the later months when it warmed up a bit.
I saw a Pilated wood-pecker fly down and rap very fast, look at his work and fly away. The predator. I cover the plywood and it stopped, the noise. This probably didn't help but?

It sounds like a mouse to me. You're hearing it chew on something. We had one in our house about a year ago and it sounded like what your describing. Just set some traps.

Hit the wall if it stops then it is most likely a squirel or mouse, if it does not stop maybe it is a bomb. or maybe someone dropped a clock down there. how old is your house?
