First of all, calling children bastards just because they are born out of wedlock just shows your ignorance. I guess you didn't know that a few years back, they changed the laws. An unwed couples baby now has both parents on the birth certificate. No more "Bastard" children.
As for why they waited? Maybe its what they felt was best. It was their decision. Noone elses.
For one of the other answerer's comments: I saw pictures of Suri the first of Sept. when they were released in 'Vanity Fair' magazine. So, no they didn't do it to overshadow the death Steve Irwin.

Is there anything wrong with being an illegitimate child?
Suri won't hate them and it hasn' affected her legacy...dont you think that Toms other two children will suffer more from their parents divorce? Hopefull by waiting for marriage tom and Katie now they're happy together and may not divorce any time soon. At least Suri will have a better chance of living with both parents all her childhood.
If and when they divorce I will agree with you.

We have had this rediculous disagreement already last week.
And I have ta tell ya, I just don't appreciate you coming on here
and calling people "Bastards" when people are born out of
wedlock. It's insensitive. And that term is no longer used really.
A Bastard these days is a jerk. Why can't you talk about anything else? Do you know how many women died back in the
20's 30's 40's 50's 60's.....because they got pregnant and had to
have closet abortions. Because society looked down on them.
They weren't encouraged to keep their babies. Like today. You
just can't win either way. Just move on to another topic will ya ?

Cause they felt like waiting? I never married my daughter's father, but when I later married, my husband legally adopted her. She was the happiest kid in her daycare and elementary school despite being a "bastard". I think Katie is stupid for marring him personally, but shouldn't that be their choice on WHEN they marry? What does being born illegitimate have to do with Suri's happiness? It's all in how she is raised.

Simply because, as you said, they are selfish. they think that money can make anyone happy and because they have so much of it, they have some "power" in the universe that makes them special.
But wether those things are important in the world today is another question.
I would never have a child out of wed lock simply because of my religious reasons and i dont believe in having kids before marrige.

considering the baby is a publicity stunt -- where are katies preggers pics? seemed like a really quick 9 months too. makes you wonder. i think suri was some poor unwanted romanian that toms studio could pick up for cheap. i thought everyone by now knew scientologist=big closet homosexual. i mean who jumps on oprahs couch? chimpanzees and gay guys.
