I decided to start taking birth control pills again after about 8yrs. I understand the cancer risks. But am I going to gain weight? The pills are Yasmin 28. Is there a possibility that I'll be fat or what? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY.

The modern birth control pill is far less likely to cause weight gain than the older ones.

I'd say you're more likely to gain weight from getting married than from taking the pill. Did you know that most women gain an average of 5 - 10 pounds after they get married? It's not laziness, it's just the change in lifestyle. So just because the pill isn't likely to increase your weight, you can't afford to relax and not worry about your weight. Especially at your age. Perimenopause starts about 10 years before menopause. Your metabolism is going to start to slow down and your body is going to start hoarding fat to compensate for the slight reduction in oestrogen that's about to happen. So do be careful!

You can ask your doctor which one s/he thinks will be the least likely to cause weight gain. But you will probably gain some weight with it. Just increase your activity level. I became curvier when I started Ortho -tri cylin but that's not supposed to be a big weight gaining one (I think). And I know it was cause of the pill cause I have a super fast metabolism and I never gain weight. (I'm by no means fat (people still think I'm too skinny) now but just a slightly bigger butt,) My point is that if I gained weight it is likely most people will.

I don't have experience with this pill. But I have experience with starting pills (Ortho tri-cyclen) again after stopping them, and guess what, I gained too much weight for my frame and now it's a constant struggle for me; thin, fat, thin, fat. I'm telling you, don't do it! Get fixed or stick to the condoms. (Btw, I didn't gain any weight at all the 1st time around). I have noticed though that my low hormone pills aren't as bad.

Yasmin is supposed to be pretty good as far as not causing weight loss. If you do find yourself gaining, you can always switch to Yaz instead, which is a slightly lower dose version of Yasmin. I think you will be fine though. HTH : )
