Before I answer, I am a Flyers fan first and have followed the team for 32 years. For me, the answer is Ed "I Love The 70's" Snider.
1) Resistant to change.
2) Does not foster growth.
3) Wants instant results.
4) Refer to #1.
As long as he's in charge, the team will not win another Stanley Cup.
SNIDER MUST GO !!!!!

Philadelphia is Amish to a fault. They rarely bring in someone from the outside into the hockey operation. Almost every person in a position of autthority making hockey decisions, from coaches, the GM, scouts and all the way down thru the minor leagues, are ex-Flyer players.
They brought in Hitchcock, but Clarke was still stocking the team with big, slow defensemen. Guys are skating around Derian Hatcher like he's a skating drill pylon. The only top shelf forwards they have are Gagne and Forsberg (when he's healthy, which is rare these days). The rest of the forwards are aging scorers with decreasing production and 3rd and 4th line wingers who have no speed.
I grew up in Philly, and it pains me to say this, but I stopped rooting for them about 5 years ago, because they kept putting a team on the ice that so obviously couldn't win when it counted. I got tired of being fed a line of bull about division championships mattering when the teams couldn't go to the second round in the playoffs.
At the end of this season, it will be 32 years without a cup in Philly (I was 9 and I remember those cup teams). Based on what they now have to do to rebuild, it may be five more years until this team is competitive again.
My advice to you, as a Flyers fan on the shelf, is to buy the NHL Center Ice package on cable or satellite and find a new team to root for that can make winning a common occurrence. Since I stopped rooting for the Flyers, I'm a much better hockey fan. I've learned how the game SHOULD be played, and you can do the same thing.

In a nutshell, too old, too slow, too hung up on Clarke. Took care of Clarke and they do have some great young players. Philly will be a force again, I am a Ranger and Oiler fan but i respect the Flyer history. Hang in there, a good coach will emerge for you soon. Holmgren is not it but another will come along. Every organization goes through a rough time, this is Philly's, they'll be back. A true fan will stick by the team. I still cheer for the Rangers and except for "94 , what have I had to cheer about over the years? And I've been a fan since the early 60's.
Go OILERS

Flyers are begining to get it together. They played great last night and there were many signs of great-play in October. They just couldn't cap.. and they made a lot of unforced-stupid mistakes.
Forsberg has a brand new orthotic brace on his ankle and he seems to like it a whole lot. / I've rarely seen better skating by any hockey player..... ever.
Flyers played as a team last night... *1,2, 3 score* / Ecshe stopped alot of shots, Nedved stepped up, Kap stepped up, Sanderson stepped up and so did all the rest of them.
Every time Anaheim double teamed Forsberg or Gagne (which they did allot) they'd simply dish it off to an open man and score.
They need to continue to cap on other team's mistakes and stop making so many of their own........... <---They are beginning to do this.
Nothing is wrong..... - They got off to a very shaky start but they are now getting it together.
They'll be just fine.

Dear Confused....
Please don't let Spencer's response deter you from staying a Flyers fan, through the good, the bad and the ugly. He is not a fan and never was and would anyone really want to be a band-wagon-hopping dweeb only supporting winning teams? // That's pathetic!
Stick with Phila. They're a great team that cares about their fans. They're simply struggling and they need our support.

Well I think they may be coming togther now and maybe Hitchcock was part of the problem. Yeah a coach has to work with what he has BUT if he can't get through to them he can be a problem as well. They played a strong game against the Penguins on Monday and put it in OT against Buffalo on Saturday. I'm not a fan of theirs I'm a Penguins fan so can't say alot about them in general. Although face it when they had that game where they lost like 9-2 you KNOW that Hitchcock kept Eshe in to punish him for the comments, not that I really blame him but still I think the comments were the tip of an iceberg where you could see the players didn't like him.

its shown that they haven't build the team from the ground up, Clarke always went after veterans and with today's new NHL makes the team look bad and very slow. it will take a few years but they need to build from the farm system. yes its good to get those veteran players but when you have them year in and year out the cant keep up with the speed of the NHL is today. they need to stop rushing there young players in the NHL cause there not ready and it will only hurt them in the long run. Build from the system and up then you will start seeing results keep up the same strategy then the Flyers will never improve.

Wow, Mike. do not understand in case you watch baseball or not, yet Halladay and Hamels are 2 of the brightest spots in this crew. really, they are the really project that could not a subject matter.

We've got no confidence. We had Keith Premoux (not sure how to spell it) our captain retire, Desjardines retired, and Zus got traded away. Maybe last night's win over Anaheim might turn around our season. Go Flyers!

You know the answers. They are just not good enough. The Goalies are shaky, the Defense is slow, They have only two guys who can really score consistently and one of them is hurt all the time. The first trade they made was to get Fedouruk back, you must be kidding.
