Yes, they can. They can become very upset, especially if they spent a long time trying to help someone or if it is a child who has died. Even though these professionals are used to dealing with medical emergencies, paramedics are still humans.

Oh yes, more than some care to admit. You have to realize they are the first ones on the scene of a medical emergency. Not being able to save anyone's life, especially if it is a person you know, or worse yet, a child is very upsetting. These reasons are why many companies/departments have what is called a critical incident debriefing session that is designed to help with these types of feelings.

Yes they do. I work in an ER and I see it esp if its a child that has been hurt in a fall or accident and they aren't breathing or if they have a head injury. They walk out with tears in their eyes.
I know myself I leave some nights crying because of the stuff I've seen (I'm still not over the Amish shooting). Its depressing as all hell. Everyone is human and while you try to not let it affect you sometimes you can't help it.

Very much so. I don't think how much can ever be underestimated.
They see things that can't be dreamed about by anyone else.
people they can not save, children clinging to life, abuse from patients, abuse from others when the paramedics couldn't save their child or parent.
If you know one, give them a card and hug, they need all the love you can give

Most do at some point. The majority are able to deal with it but, some become burned out & bitter. I feel bad for them the most. It is a demanding job where most work 24 hour shifts with low pay.

It happens. Some medics can learn to deal with it, and some can't. I was crushed the first time I had a pt die on me, but I learned to deal with it.
