Since I'm an NBA fan too, I have a personal bias for "He Got Game", which starred Denzel Washington and Ray Allen. The movie dealt with the complex underworld of college and pro basketball: where scouts dangle bling-blings and booties to convince top prospects to join their college or team.
It is also about a unique father-son relationship. Denzel portrayed a convicted prisoner given a one-week temporary parole to convince his son, Jesus Shuttlesworth, a top high school player, to enrol in the governor's alma mater. If he succeeds, he will be granted pardon.
And yes, there are a lot of cameo appearances of NBA stars such as Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan.
I personally believe that this is one of the best, if not the best, basketball movies ever made.

I must agree with the two previous people, 25th Hour was excellent! The feel of the fillm was superb! I loved the different directions the film took. It was linear but kinda skipped around and by watching the entire movie, you put the pieces together for yourself. I loved Norton in it. I fell in love with him and the fact that his girlfriend was Dawson made it all the more better. I loved that it was a interracial relationship that was genuine and full of love and romance. He wasn't doggin' her or nothing like that. And Norton's performance was excellent! He really captured the feelings that someone who is going to prison for the first time would experience.
But I knew that Spike was going up when I saw Summer of Sam! I was so impressed. It was different from his previous movies...period. It didn't have a message but it portrayed an era and told a story. That is when I fell in love with Brody! He was so excellent in the film! And it portrayed the feelings of people who lived during that time and experienced the fear of the serial killer.
I admit....SPIKE LEE IS BAD!!!! MORE SUCCESS TO YOU, SPIKE!

aaa "A Spike Lee Joint."-- Spike Lee has established himself as one of Hollywood's most important and influential filmmakers in the past decade.
My top three "joints" of his are:
25th Hour
--a great movie;Edward Norton is great as Monty, and so is the inimitable Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays one of his best friends.
It is a thoughtful film that is not about one particular thing. It does not try to get in your face with a single message, but has many messages.
Bamboozled
--This masterpiece left me speechless; Without giving away the many-layered plot, which must be experienced to be appreciated, the subject is a touchy one --- controversial and poignant, embarrassing and humiliating, enlightening and insightful.
Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" should go down in history as one of the most important films about race vs. social status and the misconceptions and stereotypes that surround them, as well as being a magnificent movie about popular culture and the almighty dollar.
Malcolm X-- Excellent and interesting;

My personal favorite is Do The Right Thing, it was so relavent to the time it was made (the Rodney King Riots were still a big deal). Great performances all the way around; and it really took a hard look at why we see race as an issue.

25th Hour!!! I was so amazed how much I enjoyed it, didn't think I would. it had different point of views from critics and some friends, so I went in thinking, okay, this is gonna be strange. The conversation between Monty and Kostya is brilliant. Edward Norton should have received at least some award for his performance.
Glad to see another fan.
