apparently so.. they wouldn't do it if they didn't think it would get them somewhere. as far as the comments, they don't have much respect for you. unless they know or think you like it.

There was that Seinfeld bit... that's the best men have come up with so far to show their interest.
There's this club in Hollywood, California called the Spotlight... it's where ugly gay men go to get laid... there's always 3 or 4 standing out front smoking... it was the time I walked past that place and had a guy grunt at me and undress me with his eyes that I truly understood what women go through.
That said, when a guy sees something good, why not stare and enjoy? It's nice to appreciate the aesthetic of a beautiful woman... and yes... it DOES flatter some women.

I think the sort of man that blatantly stares at a woman and doesn't care that she seems to be feeling uncomfortable, is the sort of person that doesn't really care what a woman thinks. They tend to regard women as sex objects and clearly don't get enough themselves so they feel 'empowered' by acting this way towards women. The reality of it is in situations like that it is actually the woman that has the balance of power, as she has something they'll never have, but want!
Yes, it is all about context, because I know some women find it a turn on or a good thing when they're stared at as it shows how attractive they can be, etc. So, it can be a definate case of of horses for different courses. However as a general rule I find anyone staring at anyone else to be rude, unless they're short sighted or something, and tend to avoid those kind of people!

I'm a happily married man and I wish men could see how cheap and disrespectful it looks when they gawk at women. (I do think, unfortunately, that there is a type of woman out there that does like it and actually dresses to provoke it.) I wish guys would realize that staring at a woman says a lot of things. If the guy is with his wife or his girlfriend and he looks at another woman, he is saying to her with his eyes, "You're all it would take for me to dump this girl." He doesn't see the damage he's doing to the woman he "loves". It also makes the "hottie" he's staring at think she's hot stuff. Guys, give your woman the ultimate compliment by ignoring the other women! Show YOUR WOMAN with your eyes that she's your number one! I love telling my wife I love her with my eyes. And even when she's not around, my eyes remain faithful to her. I have found a very good woman and I want her to know it every day!

Honestly, I think men can't help it. They're so gorram horney all the time I think their brains just short out and they're lucky they somehow manage to keep breathing.
I've heard stories of women who get female-to-male sex changes and they report that as soon as they start taking the male hormones their sex drive revs up so badly they don't know how to handle it.
No, men don't think women get flattered. Men don't really think at all. The poor things. It's a wonder they get anything done, really.

women certainly are flattered by men staring at them, as a matter of fact most women try to catch as many stares as possible.
about dirty remarks you mean sexist remarks, well, women like sexist remarks when these are said in private, for the ears of that woman only, and not intended to embarrass her in public

No, we can't help ourselves, that's all. How would you know I was interested If I stared at the floor and said nothing? If you don't like it I suggest wearing a Mu-Mu and no makeup. And remember that you will reach an age where men won't pay you much attention at all, so enjoy it while it lasts.

I think it's more about them wanting to appear macho than it is about impressing the women. It obviously doesn't work, and if they haven't caught on pretty early, they are just ignorant.
