The career counselors at my school would always say " an introduction is your 30 second elevator ride with Warren Buffet". Meaning...keep it short and sell yourself. Also, don't forget to invite your audience to participate. i.e. "I am a programmer, I love it, have *you* any experience?" Or something along those lines.
