It seems like these awards specifically for African Americans and Latinos could be the reason why we still have racism. When these ethnic groups put themselves into a "category" isn't it just making us caucasions see them as "different"? They are basically asking to be "different". If we had a Caucasian award show we would all be called racists. I don't get it.

Ok, I hear all of you, but it seems to me like a person should win an award because it is earned, not forced. When you have shows where only an African American will win or a Latino, the award is forced to go to that ethnicticity. Lets give the award to the best person regardless of race. When we continue to group people into categories we will never rid our world of racism!

I don't agree with the previous answers.
Blacks have been included in oscars and emmys, that is entirely untrue.
I don't think there should be any awards ceremonies that actually will NOT include anyone. We should be beyond that, we should have learned from previous discriminatory things, but it seems like the minorities want to keep that idea going.
It is a little ironic for them to do these things and not include others when they fought for so long to be included in everything theirselves.

Because everyone gets their little feelers hurt nowadays.
The list goes on and on. It's not just entertainment. When I was in college I often wondered why there was no White MBA club. Imagine the horror if someone organized a pro white rally yet I personally witnessed Louis Farrakhan say some of the most racist words I've ever heard on my campus.
The only answer or rebuttle you can get on this is bitter, reverse racism, and usually embedded with facts about slavery or demographics that are well over 25 to 50 years past.
Nobody wants to admit or talk about it but the facts are simple. By the way...here are 2 sweet little snippets from Mr. Farrakhan:
"White people are potential humans — they haven't evolved yet" in March 2000, and "Murder and lying comes easy for white people" in 1994.

Well, because the vast majority of awards ceremonies in the USA are caucasian-centric by default. Caucasians are, after all, the majority in this country. Also, Blacks and Hispanics often need something to make themselves feel good about their culture when, on the news, you mostly hear negative stories about Blacks and Hispanics. Especially with Blacks, most of what you hear is about how Blacks are stealing, murdering, and pimping. The Image Awards are there to show that there are a few Blacks who do not involve themselves in this crap, which is great.

In a perfect world, where everyone would just chill and quit worrying about racial tensions, there would be a caucasian awards show. and noone would have a problem with it.
but, back in reality, we (meaning some ppl other than you or I) messed up by having discrimination and slavery here for such a long time.
so, because of that, we have to put up with things like that and there's nothing we can do about it.
perhaps, one day when racial tensions have faded, there will be a white awards show. i'm hopeful that I'll win in the category of "World's Whitest Man".
EDIT: see what i mean? all i said was everyone needs to chill and someone gave my answer a low rating. that proves my point about everyone needing to chill.

I don't think that such award shows increase racism; I suspect they will become much less popular when African Americans and Latinos feel that they are adequately recognized in these mainstream areas.
I suspect that many people prefer being "different" when the alternative is to be invisible.

You are very wrong: "caucasian" awards are all over the place, in every country. And more, these ethnic groups aren't putting themselves in a "category", they are different indeed , and they want to preserve their culture and ethnicity.
I'm "caucasian" by the way, and this is only my opinion.

because for the longest time there was no room for any race but white at the oscars and emmys. that's why the latin and BET award shows were created. remember when they even had white people play all the ethnic roles except the fat ole black maid? it's true

The same reason there is no "White History Month" or "White Entertainment Television"...because everything else is Caucasion award ceremonies...
...if you look at the percentage of people invited and who receive awards you will be able to answer this question yourself.
There's a reason why Blacks/Latinos are called MINORITIES

Black Essence awards & latino awards are to celebrate their accoplishments which the "other" awards haven't traditionally. They celebrate themselves. So, whether they call it caucasian award or not it clear who they are celebrating.
