I have it in a previous answer. Give me a minute.
It is called High Flight by John Magee.
High Flight
John Gillespie Magee, Jr
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I don't remember. I know they played the Star Spangled Banner.
Remember having only channels 3 & 8? And turning manually?
Not just in the 60's, I worked 2nd shift in the late 70's and after Tom Snyder at 1:00 there wasn't much else on.
Actually, I remember the 2am feeding in 1985, and the only thing on TV was Ben Casey.
Now there's all kinds of stuff on all night.

I don't recall that one, but I do remember them signing off with a picture of the American flag and the playing of the national anthem. Long time ago. In the 60's.

i like to faux that I do and secretly use the distant administration to dam those channels, then tell the babies i'm having an exceedingly perplexing time with the help and could't seem to get them to comprehend the full theraputic fee those shows lend to our youngsters, yet i'm continuously engaged on it.

From what I remember some stations still do it. They usually have some old guy saying "And so we end our broadcast day" and they have the National Anthem playing in the background.

I didn't know a television station could "sin" off the air.
I mean, I did know they could "sign" off the air.
