The only thing I can think of that you might be doing wrong is that you did not condition the clay sufficiently before baking. You must knead the clay until it is soft and warm to evenly distribute the plasticizers. Also be sure your oven temperature is correct....check it with an oven thermometer and do not let the temp get above 265 degrees. After baking, turn off the oven and allow the clay to cool down with the oven....occasionally the shock of going from oven to room temperature can cause cracks. Leave the clay in the oven for a few hours after you turn it off and see if that helps.

On top of J's answer... I generally bake at a lower temp then stated on package, say 250 instead of 265 and for a wee bit longer then usual. Also I put the piece in before turning on oven and leave it in with door open slightly after turning oven off, till it is cool to the touch. Conditioning is most important! :D Hope that helps!
