The Marine got 18 months and will get a general discharge if he testifies against his comrades in arms. Looks like they shot the wrong guy! 18-25 year olds with war related stress! No 18 months is not alright.

No, I don't think eighteen months are enough. I don't think a life sentence is enough. I think he should have hanged then crucified as a warning. But you see, there's a difference between what I think...And what I anticipate. I expect American soldiers to murder, rape, and terrorize, and I don't expect the American judicial system to move a finger. A Marine has just pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of a fourteen-year-old Iraqi girl. No way he'll spend more than a couple of years behind bars. I'm a realist.

He was not charged with murder. The article states that the murder charges were dropped and he was charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice. The 18 month sentence is more in line with that charge.
One of the other soldiers involved was sentence to 10 years in prison, but will only serve one because of a plea agreement. It his charge was kidnapping and murder, that sentence was inappropriate and justice was not served.

18 months is a LONG TIME for a Marine. It is a death penalty for him. Imagine without getting drunk, no free fire shots, no women, no cigars, man it is HELL for 18 months without that.
