Republicans are known as the party of bad ideas and Democrats the party of NO IDEAS.

Main difference is economic.

Democratic thinkers believe that only by using taxes (highest on the richest and lowest to none on the poorest) you can create programs that help the less fortunate. The poor who are stuck being poor will get more help from the government, rise up and the entire country will benefit.

Republicans believe that by giving more tax breaks... therefore more of the taxpayers' money back that they'll have more to spend and the companies will do better and therefore so does our economy. In addition, those who work hardest will be rewarded with matching wages.

Both are completely viable and I can understand both.

Democrats fight for the "little guy". Republicans bend over for the corporations. Democrats also seem to be more civil if you follow the responses on yahoo.

This question reminds me of George Wallace's famous opinion during the 1968 presidential race...that there wasn't a dime's worth of difference. Here we are almost 40 years later. Maybe he was right.

There is no ONE main difference.

but at risk of putting it in a nutshell\

Dems, thing that the government is there for the well being of the people as a whole. this leads to more emphasis on social programs and inevitably more tax to pay for them.

Repubs, (not counting bush) think that the people are best taken care of by themselves. less government interference. Usually means less taxes, less regulation, less help for the poor.

reps. are generally somewhat well off, or buisiness owners. and older. or more rural and independent.

dems. are generally less well off, or social liberals, or theocratic intellectuals. and younger. or urban, and system integrated. (police, mass transit, education help etc.

and that girl who says republican women are hotter... wow. uh. wrong.

1 - Republicans get us into wars that they can't pay for.
2 - Democrats get us social programs we might be able to pay for.

3 - Republicans compromise our national security by allowing our high tech firms to off load our security support to places like India and Pakistan. (when was the last time you called Dell or Symantec Support)>

Not many. They usually engage in meaningless debates.

Both collect donations from big money interests.

Their polarity attracts many lame brained simple people in discussions that have no end, as to which party has done more for them.

I'd rather discuss what big money is doing.
