So I let my family use my computer but there is 1 file I don't want people to be able to open. Instead of creating a whole new log in, I just want to password protect this file. How do I do that??

1) put a password on your sign-in and activate "guest account" option. your family then can just use the guest account when accessing your computer. all they have to do is click on "guest" button at the log-in screen, no password necessary. you can then specify which folder/file the guest account can have access to and which ones can't. if you need to step away from your computer, just hold down "start" button on your keyboard and hit "L". that will put your computer back to the log-in screen without actually logging you off and closing out whatever you were doing, and your family can then do whatever they want on the guest account without any affect to yours. that's probably the easiest way to protect your files without having to get too technical or download anything or use another software.
2) buy yourself or your family another computer so you don't have to worry about your files being tampered with.
3) spank your kids or beat your wife for accessing your personal files without your authorization (not recommended).

i have the perfect program
it is very small (80 kb) w/o an installer
you can choose to to give an error message when trying to access the folder, make it jump to control panel, my computer, lots of fun options
it even keeps the settings permanently until u use ur pass to unlock the folder

Folder locking softwares are available for free.
Searching the web is of course the next and sureshot solution for the prob. Search Yahoo! for "free folder lock software", "free encryption software".

u SHOUld try "fake folder" its a software which makes ur floder private and except u noone can open it
