This assumes you are an administrator. right click My Docements, click "Move" in the Target tab and select the folder you want to make private. Follow the prompts. It is now your new my documents folder. IGNORE this step if it is already the same folder. Now go to Control Panel and select User Accounts, under User Accounts click on your account name, change account type to administrator, change your password and when prompted to make folder private select that option. You are good to go now.

Your hard drive is formatted as FAT32, FAT32 cannot do security settings on individual folders or files, that's a feature of NTFS.
Was this an upgrade from 98/ME?
To upgrade to NTFS, click Start -> Run -> cmd and hit enter.
At the command prompt type:
convert c: /fs:NTFS and hit enter
It will convert your disk to NTFS, then you can make it private.

Create the folder outside the shared folder and there you should be able to protect your folder.
