you will need a wireless router and a wireles pcmcia card for you laptop. if you have a desktop machine you will also need a wireless card for this. BT may be able to supply you with all the gear but it would be cheaper to shop around on the web as there are some good combination deal to be had.

check out amazon.co.uk or dabs.co.uk as they normally run good offers.

I don't think BT has any special needs for it's WIFI settings (unlike AOL). As such you should be able to buy almost any wireless router and set it up to work. I have a Netgear router and can highlty commend it as it's incredibly simple to set up and is never a problem. It has a feature to auto-setup and all you type in is the user name and password you use for BT and it does the rest.

I use the Netgear DG834. There are a few versions of this but all have the same method. You can get it from most PC shops but I would (and did) buy from Amazon as they are a lot cheaper, it's around £50 for the DG834G and there is a DG834GT along with others.

Other people I know have bought Belkin or Linksys and such like and some have no problems and others have had loads of problems. My parents have had no problems with Belkin and they are on BT broadband using 2 latops - 1 each. The only problem they did have was that they hadn't enabled the wifi on one of the laptops, hardly the routers problem though :).

I, too am a bit of a novice. I signed up to BT Broadband last month and I have experienced BIG problems with wi-fi. This simply means you can operate your laptop with any cables connected. However, I couldn't 'configure' my laptop to the BT Hub and had to ask assistance from their technical team via the freephone number who 'fix' the problem but when I switch off and then switch on again later I'm back to square one. I hope you have more luck. Freephone no. 0800 328 1605

I don't know what BT broadband is but I would guess that it is some type of ISP.

To utilize WiFi, your need a wireless router and a wireless adapter in your computer. Check your ISP for recommended hardware to use with their connection.
