You have the right to record the conversation to which you consented.

If they are recording the conversation and ask you to consent, why not ask the same question? Ask them if they will consent to you recording the conversation for your own records. If they are not willing to give such consent, maybe you shouldn't be having that conversation in the first place.

I've asked this of police officers (and supervisors).
In Texas- it is legal to record a conversation as long as ONE of the parties KNOWS it is being recorded. (you don't have to tell anyone) AS long as YOU are part of the meeting.
You can not, however - leave a recording device in a room to tape a meeting that does not involve you.

As long as you state you also are recording the conversation.

You must also ask them for their consent, or state "This conversation is being recorded."

Edit: Yes, but both parties MUST verbally agree.

Depends on your state. Some states say that only one party needs to consent. Other states say that both parties consent.
