Very hard pick, especially between Gates and Gonzalez. Both have been great blockers and reliable targets forever. Maybe Tony Gonzalez has been more important to the Chiefs than Gates has been to the Chargers.

It's true that in the past, Gates was not as good at blocking as Gonzalez or Shockey, but this year he has been phenomenal. Gates is still learning the game, he didn't play in college, so he had alot of catching up to do when he started out. It seems like he's been playing for a long time because of the respect he gets, but he's only in his fourth year. Gonzalez has been dominant for a long time so I would have to say right now the edge still goes to Gonzalez, but Gates is the most talented TE in the game and he will eventually be the best. Shockey is a great TE, but Gonzalez and Gates are in a class of their own.

Gonzalez is past his prime, but may be the best TE to have played the position. I think if the Giants used Shockey as a reciever first, blocker second,he would be the best today, but not in the system he's in. I love the giants, but I have to put Shockey #2 by default. Where is Crumpler on this list? I personally think he's the best TE today

Theyre all good. In fact, i would add Alge Crumpler of the Falcons into that mix.
It'll sound biased, but i gotta go with my man, The Shock.
The guy is an animal. He drops passes herre and there, i'll give you that, but he takes licks like ive never seen and he just keeps getting up. Plus he's a tremendous blocker and adds enthusiasm to the game.
Not to mention he's quick and agile, and cuts routes like a WR

Gates, because he's the only one out of the group that you could line up at flanker, he's probably one of the few tight-ends that can give a corner back all kinds of fits.

As much as I hate to admit it, Kellen Winslow is another rangy tight-end with loads of talent. I never liked him even when he was at Miami cause he's just a big ole' cry baby that needs to grow up. But I'm a fair man, I give credit where credit is due.
