9x+(-2x)
OR
9x+2x
OR SOMETHING ELSE?!

In school they used to teach us to read the words...

If the words said "minus a minus"
. . . that meant plus

So your example 9X- (-2x)

is 9X minus a minus 2x

Which means

9X plus 2X

Which is 11X
