I have a 4-year-old cell phone. I don't have a regular phone anymore; it cost the same and nobody called me. I also have a camera, which I have to take with me when I expect to take pictures, and an MP3 player if I want to listen to music. The camera takes AA batteries, which I recharge, and the Mp3 player charges from a USB port with an adapter and doubles as a memory stick for presentations and such. But I am always carrying a cell phone anyway; it would be great if it took pictures and played music and had a USB-plug too, all with one battery to charge and one thing to put in my pocket. Like a swiss army knife. Electronics are tiny, light and cheaper every day. Why not?

On the other hand, I agree that many people get carried away using gadgets just to show them off. I know people like that, but the flaw is not in the phones but in the people. If someone is too absorbed in their phone to pay attention to their friends, or plays with annoying ringtones in quiet places, or constantly takes pictures for fun... I've seen people eat a nice restaurants with a Bluetooth headset blinking on their ear. Too much tech, too little etiquette.

YEs I do. I also find it annoying when you see someone strutting around using those earphones with the speaker at their neck. They are in ordinary places like the supermarket but just have to let everyone know that they are important because they have a special phone. I was really peeved when I had to replace my phone as the old one wouldnt work and the shop said they dont fix them any more.

Expensive phones has almost all of this tech gadget features. Camera, video, calendar, alarm, games, you can make notes, list of to do things, etc etc..its almost basically like a palm pilot or a laptop! ( minus the calling and receiving calls in laptops)..so that's what makes them expensive..

I have a high-end mobile phone, and believe me, i don't go anywhere without it. My social security number, bank account numbers are all there ( protected, of course)..plus, i can use it to play MP3s in my dull moments, or watch/make video clips..

its all in one!

SOME DO, SOME DON'T. firstly, it's a medium of communication. 2ndly, expensive phones have more and far better features (talk about blackberries). but if money is if no object, there's D&G goldplated mobile phones to indulge.
