My wife got t-boned in my Mitsubishi Lancer today (4 way stop, shes on the right, old lady on the left. 1 Witness says it wasn't my wife's turn to go). I know it has a bent rear axel and some damage to rear door and quarter panel. Could I have a body shop fix the hard stuff and I replace the door and quarter panel from a salvage yard on my own if it turns out to be my wife's fault? (We do have collision). We're both fulltime college students, I work fulltime, recently married, and have a 2 yr old daughter. In other words, I'm broke! HELP!

You've go collision, use it. You may find the repairs are more then the car is worth and they'll total it out.

Most insurance companies will settle directly with you in whatever way you choose. My Jeep was the meat in a 5 car pileup, minor damage to both bumpers. The bodyshop estimated 740 dollars. I went on Ebay and bought 2 new upgraded bumpers and rock rails for under 500, the insurance company cut me a check for the estimated amount, I did the work myself and pocketed the difference.
