Because my life is important, but yours is not
[Actually, it is just as important as mine, but I'm just making a point]

People are unkind because they don't know the subject too well. In a sea of humanity like in a big city for eg, sometimes due to the limitations of the human mind, people subconcsiously screen their kindness in order to survive. Due to its limited capacity, the mind is simply incapable of being kind to everybody. It would just be simply, too exhausting.
So when you see an unkind person next time, forgive and forget. Either he unwittingly does not realise it and if he does, is simply not worth your tears.

Fear. Fear of rejection, ridicule, not fitting in, and the list goes on. So much fear that they are unkind so it makes the end result quicker. For instance, they fear that a person will not like them, so they are rude and mean to that person so that no possibility of a relationship will form because they fear that if one does, the relationship will somehow fail, thus causing them pain, heartache, etc. Fear.

My theory is that people who are unkind really hate themselves, and need to be in search of their humanity.
I am not so much a human being insearch of my spirituality, I am a spiritual being in search of my humanity.
I mean the humanity that Adam and Eve had before the Fall.
Full of sanctifying grace.

My opinion: When people are unkind, they are striking out at others because something about their own life is making them unhappy. They can't snipe at themselves (that gives no satisfaction) so they snipe at others.

There's an old saying "Hurt people, hurt people." I choose to believe that when someone is nasty to me they must be acting out of something that was done to them at some time.
I work in the travel industry and it doesn't take long in this field till you are convinced there is something evil in the skies.
Travelers are never willing to take responsibility for themselves. If they are running late for their flight in the morning, it's your fault. It doesn't matter that they couldn't get their asses out of bed in time.

They are so unhappy that they want to inflict pain on others. They tend to stand out in our lives making us forget all of the good people who are out there. If someone is nasty to you make a deal with yourself that you will be kind to the next person you see. Spread that love!!
Best of luck to you!!

Because people are selfish on a moment to moment basis. When they think only of themselves they have no reason to be nice to you because they are only looking to fulfill their own needs and desires and whims. Yeah, I guess thats a little cynical. By and large though, I think it is true.

I think people strike out at other people when those people exhibit attitudes or characteristics similar to those of themself.
Example: a close-minded mean christian will strike out at close-minded mean athiest. Even though these two people have opposing beliefs, their I-know-it-all-and-you-are-stupid attitudes are similar.

Applause given to Rockster!
That summed it up pretty easily.
Was exactly what I thought.
