It's a politicians job to serve his country with the best interest of the people at heart.
To make laws which effect people's life in a positive way, protect the public and solve problems.
This is how it's supposed to be.

Politicians represent the people in a forum/meeting setting generally in differing political systems. They debate policy and try to decide and come to an agreement on what is best for the future of everyone in their country. This is done by passing laws that may affect the entire population or only a small percentage. They are normally guided by a constitution or a framework that determines their role; and effectively the boundaries they must remain within to fulfill their role.

Stereotypically they may be thought of as in a democratic country where they are voted representives of the people.

Their primary job is to tell you what you want to hear so you will vote them in office, as soon as they are elected, do whatever they have to do to stay in office sucking the life out of the tax payers.

Primarily their job is to piss me off, and they are extraordinarily well at it. That's why they make about 178,000 a year...........that is until they vote to increase their salary (the one bill thats passed all the time).
