Who invented the seven-day week?

Not only did the French not invent the seven-day week, they actually tried to replace it with a ten-day week.

"There are two likely origins of the seven-day week, both emerging around 500 B.C. and possibly earlier: the Jewish tradition - enshrined in the story of the Creation and the Ten Commandments - of working six days and resting on the seventh (Sabbath); and the ancient Babylonian belief in the astrological influence of the seven ''planets'' (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Sun and the Moon). The astrological seven-day week was introduced to the West through the courtesy of Rome in the first century B.C. When Christianity arrived, Sunday (the Russian name for which means ''resurrection'') was designated as the Lord's Day, and the seven-day cycle spread through much of the world. Six hundred years later, Mohammed also adopted the seven-day week, choosing Friday as the Islamic day for prayer.

Once the idea got started, the seven-day week showed great staying power. In 1792, the newly enlightened French Republic tried to abolish the 7-day week in favor of a 10-day week..."

there are alot of speculation as to the origin most popular being roman because the number 7 supposedly had some spiritual powers as to what is anyones guess
