My processor selection is down to 2 candidates. Both the same model.

One is 2.2gHz with 1MB L2 cache, one is 2.4gHz with 512kb L2 Cache. Both have the same L1 cache.

Do one outdo the other when it comes to performance? I will most likely be overclocking both to get a few hundred more mHz.

Thank you all.

Go for the L2 cache. If you are overclocking, a 2.4 GHZ may or may not give the same performance as the 2.2 GHZ. Really manufacturers assign as safe speed to a chip in the production line depending on their testing methods. The max overclocking may be different depending on the actual physical chips

the cache is like ram yet specially to the processor it is accessed plenty speedier than the ram itself and is used on a rapid foundation. the 2d is greater value-effective i ought to declare as a results of fact it fairly is a Intel Pentium, that is a somewhat previous processor. There are 3 generations of intel that have been outfitted after the Pentium: center 2, The (i3,i5,i7), and 2d technology of the i's. in the experience that your a gamer a computer with theses specs are actually not an exceedingly reliable determination. For having a computer with reliable hardware are extremely high priced. a computer that has the processing skill for gaming could be some thing with an i5, i7 and a first rate gpu. yet that is requesting around 600 and up. while you're on the cheap and choose on gaming skill and the ability to enhance then i recommend purchase a barebones laptop kit as a results of fact a computer can honestly be upgraded over the years and a computer can(with the fee of the whole piggy economic enterprise)

Well normally I would say go with the 3800+, but in this case sense you plan to overclock, go ahead and stick with the 3700+, since it has the greater cache. You will be able to compensate for the speed difference with overclocking, but you can't create more cache. Also, make sure to get a good motherboard with good overclocking options, I would personally recommend an ASUS.

i would get the 2.2ghz. that extra 200mgz is not a huge deal, but the former has twice as much cache.
just make sure you dont overclock too much. about 400mhz will be the limit
